Fire/EMS honors Mert Seibert

The Miami Township Board of Trustees and Fire Chief Jim Whitworth helped honor Mert Seibert with a plaque to commemorate her 20 years of service to the citizens of Miami Township as a member of the Fire and Emergency Medical Services.

Mert began her career as a volunteer with the Miamiville Fire Department and Life Squad. She served the community as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic. Setting an example for her children, public service eventually turned into a family affair. Her daughter, Linda, served as a firefighter and emergency medical technician, her son became a firefighter, and her daughter, Nancy, served as an EMT, all in Miamiville.

As the fire and emergency medical departments serving Miami Township merged and the face of the life safety services changed, Mert joined the Milford-Miami Township EMS. She remained an active member until 1994, when the private EMS was merged with the public fire service to create today's Miami Township Fire/EMS and Mert joined the newly created department.

When Mert was no longer able to make emergency responses, she joined the department's cadre of non-emergency volunteers with a mission of supporting the emergency responders at emergency scenes and during lengthy training session by providing refreshments and food.

"Mert Seibert has been a faithful servant of the citizens of Miami Township since 1985," Chief Whitworth said. "Mert's service has made a positive difference in the lives of many of the residents of this community."
