Fire hydrants to be flushed

MIAMI TOWNSHIP-The Miami Township Fire/EMS is conducting annual inspection and maintenance of all fire hydrants in the township to ensure the hydrants are operating properly, and to clear the water lines of debris.

The hydrants will be greased, flowed and cleared of debris to maintain access for emergency situations. Flushing will continue through the fall during business hours. Due to hydrant flushing, it is inevitable that some residents will receive rust-colored water, which can stain laundry but is safe to drink. Residents may also receive rust-colored water when areas adjacent to theirs are being flushed. Residents should check that water coming into the house is clear before doing laundry during the flushing period. If you have concerns, please call the Clermont County Water Department at 732-7970.

Water should be allowed to run freely through all plumbing fixtures until it appears clear again. Residents should avoid turning on hot water taps during the flushing period, because the water heater will replenish itself with rusty water, which will remain in storage in the tank until taps are opened. A special note is made to residents who routinely undergo home dialysis treatment. Due to the need for clean water in the treatment process, all dialysis patients should contact the Miami Township Fire/EMS for special scheduling of your area of the township.

In addition, the Miami Township Fire/EMS is looking for civic groups or individuals who are interested in painting fire hydrants. The fire department will provide paint, clean-up supplies and guidance for anyone who wishes to participate. Please contact Firefighter/EMT Jason Burbrink at 248-3709 to volunteer.
